A picturesque little fishing village with a black beach and houses
clinging to the hillsides in terraces. Narrow alleyways and sleepy silence during the siesta, when the sun warms the sheltered bay in the winter months or heats it up in the summer.
A heaven for holiday-makers who don’t like the bustle of tourism.
The holiday accommodation available in the village provides no luxury, only basic comfort - but also peace and tranquillity. Inquire in the bars in the village itself. The accommodation is in old fishermen’s houses, all of which look the same. Each house has its plants, especially shady pepper shrubs and bougainvillea, and almost all of them have roof terraces with a view of the sea.The restaurants have the same air of serenity as the rest of the village. Just before Las Playitas, there is a narrow tarmac road going off to the left. This leads to the LIGHTHOUSE on the PUNTA DE LA ENTALLADA. After several kilometres on the road that winds through gentle hills, you will think you are in a fairy-tale: far ahead, high up on the mountain, stands a beautiful castle. This unusual lighthouse goes back to the 18th century, and has been built with astonishing care, as a proud fort with square inner courtyard, its masonry of black stones, with white mortar and red edges. There is said to be a “twin” on the African coast. If the road is not closed by a barrier, you can have a close look at this monument and also enjoy the view over long stretches of coast to Esquinzo.
